God has given us a clear mandate to disciple people: We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord;’ (Psalm 78:3–7). If there is any group desperately in need of and open for discipling today, it is our young people. Traditional family structures are breaking down and our Minister of Education referred to our schools as ‘war zones’. This generation of young people are already leaders of today and will be of tomorrow too. Workers in HIV see our youth as the ‘window of hope’ as reaching them will go a long way towards turning around the HIV/AIDS infection rates. Therefore, we as Christians have to engage with and involve our youth. However, the reality is that many of us are struggling with our youth… In OM, we have a passion for the next generation and particularly to empower our churches and youth ministries to be more effective in reaching and discipling them. We’ve been running TeenStreet in partnership with local churches and youth ministries in other parts of the world for over fifteen years and have seen thousands of young people’s lives transformed and churches strengthened. Now TeenStreet is running in South Africa! TeenStreet seeks to motivate and equip youth to have a real relationship with Jesus and to reflect Him in the world. It’s a week-long exciting, interactive discipleship event for young people. At TeenStreet, teens enjoys one-on-one time with God, small group sessions with leaders, workshops, sports, outreaches, awesome worship, games, interacting and hanging out with other Christian young people. We have already had young people from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and overseas who attended. How can TeenStreet contribute towards your work with your young people (TeenStreet Outcomes): · Discipled young people. · Leadership development. · Culture of mentoring established and or promoted. · Equipping for ministry in the kingdom. · Church youth ministries empowered. How can you be involved? · Mobilise your teens (high school learners) to attend. · Identify leaders/ adults with a heart for youth from your church to be involved in and at TeenStreet. · Invite us to do a presentation about TeenStreet at your church or youth group. · Pray for TeenStreet. We desire to make TS accessible to every young person in South Africa. Therefore, participant’s fees are subsidised. You can help by donating to TS gifts in cash or kind.
“It was an exciting time to be at TS. Since the day I left the camp, I have always testified about enjoying the presence of God.” |
