>  our vision
For many, HIV/AIDS is seen as a curse. However, we at First City Baptist, the parent church of SOPHUMELELA, believe that it provides a unique opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ and His life-changing gospel.

In Xhosa, SOPHUMELELA means "we will succeed!".The community chose this name as it conveys the message that no matter what our circumstances are - even living with HIV/AIDS - we "can do all things through Christ who gives us strength" (Phillipians 4:13).

.: Educate pre-school children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS
.: Engage in spiritual, vocational and social support to both our patients and their families
.: Provide prevention education, teaching life-skills through spiritual nurturing
.: Develop skills and provide work to restore hope and dignity in our patients
.:
Establish a Dignity House - a place for in-patient care to improve quality of life by providing respite care and counseling for patients and their families, as well as dignified terminal care
