"The vision which fuelled our struggle for freedom; the development of energies and resources; the unity and commitment of common goals - all these will be needed if we are to bring AIDS under control. This is a war. We must not continue to be debating, to be argueing, when people are dying... " Nelson Mandela "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go I wish you well;keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. " James 2: 14-17
The war against HIV and AIDS will not be won unless there are those willing to participate in the fight. No individual person or group can bring about the end of the AIDS pandemic on their own; it is essential that others become involved. As a result, it is the goal of AIDS HOPE to provide opportunities, resources and training so that people can play the role that they believe the Lord is calling them to. Opportunities to serve exist for: ChurchesHaving partnered with many AIDS ministries in South Africa, we have also been able to see the difficult conditions that many have to operate under. Many powerful ministries are being limited due to lack of finances, resources and personnel. Also, we have also been in contact with a number of churches that are aware of the HIV/AIDS crisis in South Africa; but as it has not affected their church personally, they are not sure what they can do to help. The bible makes it clear that we are all one body, and when one part of the body suffers, so does the rest (1Cor 12:26). Our desire is to see churches in South Africa partnered effectively with struggling ministries, in order that, together, they can both participate in the strengthening of the kingdom of God. This partnership might be a once-off contribution to a specific project; however our ultimate goal is that churches and ministries make a long-term mutual commitment, to support, encourage and pray for one another. Financial support is an obvious need, but many struggling ministries also simply desire encouragement, and affirmation that they are being prayed for. Should your church be looking for opportunities to partner with an HIV/AIDS ministry, please contact us. Additionally, AIDS HOPE provides HIV/AIDS training for churches and church groups. If you would like to be involved by receiving this training, you can find more information here. VolunteerHave you finished high school, and would like to do something “different” for a year? Are you at university, and need something worthwhile to do to fill up those long summer holidays? Are you a skilled person, who would like to do something with those skills to serve the family of God? Or, would you just like to serve? If so, AIDS HOPE’s volunteer program might be for you! AIDS HOPE places volunteers in a number of different settings: orphanages, AIDS hospices, clinics and community development programs, for anywhere between 2 and 6 months (although we are willing to consider differing lengths of time). Volunteering in with one of these ministries is an excellent opportunity to serve your community, gain new skills, make friends, all while sharing the love of Christ by caring for the unloved, orphaned, widowed and dying. School TrainingPart of the ministry of AIDS HOPE is to provide education in schools, to empower youth not only to adopt positive life habits for themselves, but also to encourage them to stand up in their communities as role-models. At this point in time, AIDS HOPE is not able to become physically involved in any more schools; however, this is where we see people of the community becoming involved! Should you wish to find out more about how you can receiving training to deliver HIV/AIDS and character training in schools, please contact us.
