"It is bad enough that people are dying of AIDS, but no one should die of ignorance!"
Elizabeth Taylor

The greatest weapon one can possess in the fight against HIV and AIDS is knowledge. We believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of HIV infection in South Africa. The education we provide differs from that offered by the mass media and governmental organisations in that it is biblically-based; through returning to God's blueprint for not only relationships, but also care of the sick, orphaned and widowed, we consider it possible to curb the effect of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Training is provided in a number of forms:

Workshops

AIDS HOPE is passionate about providing HIV/AIDS education to the family of God. As a result, a number of training opportunities exist for churches, community groups, and interested individuals.

On specific dates throughout the year, 3 day seminars are provided by the AIDS HOPE team. The following topics is include in the training:

  • Medical facts about HIV/AIDS
  • Attitudes and prejudices
  • Compassion
  • Worldview
  • Socio-economic impact
  • Care and counselling
  • Testimonies
  • The church's response

Please contact AIDS HOPE if you wish to receive further information about the training, locations and dates.

School Visits

AIDS HOPE seeks to empower students by making them aware of the risk of HIV/AIDS, as well as enthusiastic about making positive life choices. Education is provided withing two formats:

  • A six week "Better Choices" course, for Upper primary/High school students .
  • The two-year "Crossroads" program, offered to Upper primary/Lower high school students.

Both of these programs are based on the renowned "Crossroads" program, which has been effectively implemented into many schools in South Africa, and internationally.

AIDS HOPE is not currently able to present the "Crossroads" program in any additional schools, due to an already full program this year. However, should you wish to have more information about these programs, or the possibility of having AIDS HOPE present them in future years, please do not hesitate to contact AIDS HOPE.

AIDS HOPE also visits schools to present informational speeches on a variety of topics. Dependant on given notice, speakers can be provided for school assemblies, meetings, class discussions or extra-mural groups.

Churches

We believe that the church has a very big part to play in countering the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in South Africa. As such, it is necessary that the church has the skills and knowledge to effectively play its part.

In order to increase HIV/AIDS awareness, and to mobilise the church to play a more active role in the pandemic, AIDS HOPE is available to provide church presentations or materials to better inform congregations. These presentations are suitable for a Sunday morning service; however, Youth group presentations, sessions for cell groups or other groups are all willing to be considered. AIDS HOPE is looking for opportunities to better equip the body of Christ!
